Club ready to activate clause to sign West Ham man – Player keen on move

According to a claim in the Algerian media, Lyon are looking to keep Saïd Benrahma beyond this season. The winger joined the French side on loan from West Ham United during the last transfer window.

Competition.dz have reported on the latest developments regarding the future of Benrahma at West Ham and they say he wants to remain at Lyon after a successful loan period with the Ligue 1 club.

It’s claimed Lyon are also keen for the Algeria international to remain with them and they are ready to activate the option to buy clause, reportedly set at €14.4m. Another clause said to be in the agreement is that Lyon would have to pay the Hammers 10% of any future profit.

Initially joining on loan from Brentford during the 2020/21 season, Benrahma had struggled in this campaign to get regular football at West Ham. Subsequently he was loaned out to Lyon at the end of the last window for a reported €6m fee.

Since arriving in France, the player has made 13 appearances, scoring 2 goals. He’s contracted to the Premier League side until June 2026.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
Promoting and developing the youth would of been one of my main priorities when hiring a new manager

Firstly because we like to see youth players flourish and this crop seem very very good and secondly it makes the most sense business wise on how a club like ours improves. Anyone we can sell is 100% profit for FFP reasons and anyone that can hold down a place means more money can be spent on better signings elsewhere.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
Really hope that JWP stays. We’ve not seen the best of him, certainly not consistently. He was fantastic against Leverkusen and in the early part of the season.

Moyes has now ground him down to be mainly a sub, whilst Soucek has been in the middle when we’re desperate for someone who can get their foot on the ball and pass.

I do wonder if JWP was critical of the tactics behind the scenes and Moyes didn’t like that. It was good to hear him being honest in the media about how we sat back in the 1st leg.

Interesting with the Potts interview that one of the comments he made was “whoever comes in won’t know much about the U21s”.
Moyes last few games can’t come soon enough.

Wonder what the new manager will think of Downs.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
If JWP is going to hang around and flourish in the new system then he will need to learn to stop 90% of his passes going backwards and sideways

Soucek has no chance, watch him saturday run around and never look to get on the ball. Never wants to take it on the half turn, never wants to show for it. Can't pass, can't dribble.

Hopefully he is one of the first out the door

Re: The summer transfer window thread
I like JWP for being one of the most vocal on criticising our style of play and giving too much respect to everybody. In a football playing side, I think he’ll definitely have a role to play as the passer to get attacks started alongside more of a spoiler like Alvarez. It’s when he is expected to be an outright holding midfielder without the ball, or played as a 10 (or even more ridiculously at left wing!) that he is limited.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
I hope so Gary, would be a good addition and as a ball playing CB who is comfortable in possession he is exactly what we need.

Apparently Moyes pulled the plug on him in January as he is 'too short'.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
I think its unfair to knock JWP as you can hardly judge a player who plays in a team that doesn't take possession of the football for 70% of the game. So as a player who CAN pass the ball he is a bit fucked as we don't have the ball long enough to fucking pass it very often under Moyes. I do hope we see a bit more actual, you know, football being played next season under the new bloke instead of watching the other team play with said ball.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
Amongst all the usual loan rubbish we have had two exceptional loan placements this season... I'd be tempted to offer Potts to Southampton (assuming they miss out on promotion) and Orford to Wycombe both with an option to cancel in January if not getting enough playing time.

Neither likely to get much playing time in our 1st XI squad next season but need to keep progressing.

Downes, Earthy and Scarles should feature next season.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
Like most I've not been impressed with JWP overall, but he is without doubt one of those that is going to be much better in a team that plays football with the football. What gives me hope is his early form, and that performance against Leverkusen, he was excellent playing in a team going for it.

He seems a good character, and as said below, we need to be careful of the homegrown quota. Soucek on the other hand absolutely has to go, no use in a footballing side and we need to cash in whilst we can still get a bit of dough.

Downes is the interesting one, I've got a feeling we'll be seeing him heavily involved next season. Just got a hunch.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
Given our worrying home grown quota difficulties (the majority are old, shit or both) I'd be surprised if we got rid of JWP this summer.

And I can't help but think in a possession based team he might thrive a little more. I don't think Moyes' style really played to his strengths, and who knows, perhaps if we play a little further up the pitch he might have a few more cracks at finally getting a freekick goal or two for us.

Having said that, I would not lose a wink of sleep if we've lined up a load of home grown players to come in and he fucks off.

Re: The summer transfer window thread
Sell Soucek and JWP and use that combined money to buy a decent replacement. Downes can be the other one

Orford or Potts to be the rotation/back up

I don't see JWP leaving, but wouldn't mind if he did.
